The 2010 GMC Canyon is more compact than our full-size Sierra, but it's every bit as serious in the technology and performance departments. And though reviewers like the GMC's V8, its thirst for fuel defeats the reason -- fuel economy -- that many buyers opt for a compact truck over a full size one. Trim levels, depending on cab configuration, include Work, SLE-1, and SLT. Regular- and extended-cab Canyons come with a 185-horsepower 2.9-liter 4-cylinder engine. Fuel economy is rated at 17 mpg in the city cycle and 23 mpg on the highway for the rear-wheel drive model and 16 mpg / 22 mpg, respectively, for the four-wheel drive model. Even in vehicles equipped with air bags and the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in an appropriate infant, child or booster seat.
